What is a House Tour and What Can I Expect? The Palisades Village House Tour is your chance to step inside your neighbors’ homes and see all the creative, beautiful ways they’ve made their spaces their own. This year, don’t stop at the door—take a look at their gardens and outdoor spaces too! Start by inviting a friend and purchasing your tickets. The homes are a secret until the day of the tour—our lips are sealed! On tour day, begin at the Palisades Hub, located at 5200 Cathedral Avenue NW (between MacArthur and Hawthorne, behind Mimi’s and Claudio’s Table). There you’ll pick up your glossy guidebook and bracelet, which serve as your tickets to enter the homes. The guidebook includes a map, photos, and descriptions of each home. From there, you can set your own pace and visit the homes in any order you like. This year’s homes are spread across several neighborhoods, so they’re not easily walkable. While we’ve done our best to minimize steps, some are unavoidable. You’ll find notes in the guidebook indicating where steps are present for your convenience. When you arrive at each home, look for picket fences with signs and balloons—your cue that you’ve found the right place! You’ll be greeted by a sponsor and docent, and additional docents will be stationed throughout the house to share insights about its history and special features. (Some rooms may not be open to the public.) Each home feels like a little celebration, and we’ve even planned a special stop where you can relax, enjoy live jazz, and refreshments—look for the invitation tucked inside your guidebook. Take your time, enjoy the tour, and don’t forget to support local restaurants along the way—many have advertisements in the guidebook to inspire your lunch plans. Who knew you could have such an enjoyable day and support the important work Palisades Village does for older adults in our community? Talk about a win–win!
