Join renowned contemporary modern dance choreographer Dana Tai Soon Burgess for an intimate evening exploring the cultural histories, experiences, and artistic influences that shape his creative process. A fourth-generation Korean American, Burgess will discuss his dedication to telling Asian American and Pacific Islander stories through dance and share insights from his memoir, Chino and the Dance of the Butterfly: A Memoir, which traces his journey as an artist navigating multiple cultural worlds and transforming those experiences into movement. Dancers from the acclaimed Dana Tai Soon Burgess Dance Company will perform excerpts from Burgess’s signature repertoire, highlighting the intersection of visual art, history, identity, and human emotion. The evening will conclude with a brief audience Q&A, followed by a book signing, with copies of Chino and the Dance of the Butterfly: A Memoir available for purchase.
