Want to reduce your insurance rates and refresh your knowledge of safe driving practices? Learn how aging affects our driving experience? Want to be a better driver? Sign up for a FREE AARP Safe Driver training. Capitol Hill Village and Northwest Neighbors Village are hosting an AARP Safe Driver training to refresh participants’ knowledge of traffic hazards, specific driving practices that reduce the risk of crashes and how aging affects our driving experience.
This training is made possible thanks to a grant to Capitol Hill Village, Northwest Neighbors Village, Palisades Village and other DC Villages from the DC Department of Transportation’s Vision Zero program, part of a national and international effort to create safer roadways for all users, including pedestrians, bicycles and cars. Through this grant and one from the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments, Village outreach will encourage and assist older adults to plan for their future by exploring alternate transportation modes, in addition to taking steps to become even safer drivers and pedestrians.
Although there is no test at the end of the training, participants must attend the full program to receive the AARP Safe Driver certificate. The District mandates a car insurance discount for those who complete this training, with the amount up to each insurance company.
Space is limited and registration is required. Lunch will be provided and parking is available.
To register, please send an email with your name and the name of your Village to firstname.lastname@example.org and write “AARP 11/14 training” in the subject line. For more information, contact Heather Foote, Transportation Outreach Manager, Capitol Hill Village at (202) 543-1778, ext. 109.
